Slovak Telekom in Q1 2026: rising 5G traffic, continued fibre network expansion, and new offers
The first quarter of 2026 confirms an ongoing trend – customers are consuming more data, adopting new technologies faster, and increasingly relying on digital services as a natural part of everyday life. Mobile data traffic in the Slovak Telekom network grew by 40% year-on-year, with more than 65% of all data now transmitted via 5G devices. 5G traffic alone increased by more than 180% year-on-year.
Alongside data usage, communication patterns are also evolving. VoLTE calls now account for 85% of total traffic, while older technologies are gradually declining – data traffic on the 2G network decreased by 8% year-on-year.
Total revenues of Slovak Telekom reached €219.8 million in the first quarter of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 1.7%, while adjusted EBITDA stood at €101.0 million. The results reflect strong demand for mobile and digital services, as well as continued investments in infrastructure.
“The first quarter confirmed that our strategy of systematically building the best network is delivering results. Record 5G traffic, further fibre network expansion, and their positive impact on revenues prove that our investments in infrastructure and customer experience are heading in the right direction. I am proud of the entire team that works every day to bring the best of technology to our customers,” said Melinda Szabó, CEO of Slovak Telekom and T-Mobile Czech Republic.
Growing coverage across Slovakia
In addition to its mobile network, Telekom continues to invest in fixed infrastructure. During the first three months of this year, the company expanded its fibre network to reach an additional 23,500 households, bringing total availability to 1.395 million households. This growth is driven by a combination of internal development and cooperation with energy partners, enabling faster nationwide coverage expansion.
Leadership confirmed externally
In the past quarter, Slovak Telekom achieved several top rankings, reflected in six prestigious Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ for the best and fastest mobile network and for leadership in 5G network quality. The operator also demonstrated its top network quality during the open-air Telekom Electronic Beats festival in Jasná. The company was also named Best Employer 2025 in the IT and telecommunications sector.
A quarter full of innovations
The first three months of the year brought multiple product launches and innovations. Telekom introduced new “Paušály Spojenie” plans with higher data volumes and speeds, expanded Magenta 1 benefits to include Disney+, and launched a new device protection portfolio “Pre istotu.” Magio TV also added ten new channels, including the return of TV Paprika.
Telekom also celebrated the second anniversary of the Magenta Moments platform, which now has more than 800,000 active users. The number of partners has grown from 45 to over 450. In January, customers gained access to digital benefits such as a one-year subscription to PicsArt Pro.
Digitalisation beyond major cities
Telekom continued its ENTER program to develop digital skills among children and introduced a new “Digital Region” grant program to support digital inclusion. The initiative connects municipalities, schools, seniors, and communities through libraries.
“It is important that the benefits of modern technologies are accessible and useful to everyone, in every region,” added Melinda Szabó.
Operational indicators
The development of the customer base was mainly affected by a decline in the M2M segment. The total number of mobile customers reached 2.34 million, while excluding M2M, the number of contract customers showed slight growth.
In the fixed services segment, stable growth continues – broadband connections increased to 824 thousand and digital TV customers to 680 thousand.
