The benefit is intended for graduates of training sessions conducted from 2022 to June 30, 2026, as part of the project under the Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan, "Improving the digital skills of seniors and distribution of Senior tablets," implemented by the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic (MIRRI). More information will be provided via letter, email, or SMS. The data package, in the form of a SIM card, can be collected at any Slovak Telekom store by July 31, 2026.
After the data allowance is used up, internet access remains available at a reduced speed of 256 kbps at no additional cost. If interested, users can activate discounted data packages: Senior 15 GB for €5.13 or Senior 35 GB for €12.30, either through the Telekom app or by sending a free SMS in the format Senior15 or Senior35 to 12330. They can check their current data usage at any time in the app or by sending an SMS in the format STAV to 12330. More information about the service is available at www.telekom.sk/digitalny-senior or via the free customer hotline at +421 2 4485 1055.
Seniors are increasing online – connection alone is not enough, skills matter
Access to the internet is now a prerequisite for an active life for every generation. Although the majority of the population in Slovakia uses the internet, the situation among seniors is different. Estimates show that approximately half of people aged 65+ are online, and many use the internet only to a limited extent.
"Slovakia has been covered with a modern network that makes internet access available to virtually everyone. However, true digital inclusion does not end with technology – it is equally important to know how to use it. That is why we have long supported the development of digital skills among seniors, and we are pleased that both the results of the national project and our own experience confirm the growing interest of the older generation in the digital world," explains Martina Kandera, Director for the Residential Segment at Slovak Telekom.
The operator has also been running its Ready for the Digital Age program for seniors for five years. Last year, it participated in digital security training for older people, and this year it launched the Digital Region program in nine libraries across Slovakia, where one of the activities is educating seniors in digital security and the effective use of technology. "Today, these technologies help people stay in touch with family, manage important tasks, and access information. We would like as many seniors as possible to benefit from them, regardless of age or previous experience. That is why we support initiatives that help bridge the digital gap between generations," adds Martina Kandera.
Tens of thousands of trained seniors need the next step
The Digital Seniors project is already delivering tangible results. Its goal is to improve the digital skills of more than 100,000 seniors, and it currently reports over 98,000 graduates across Slovakia.
For them, Telekom's data package is a natural next step, enabling them to apply newly acquired knowledge in everyday life—whether at home or while traveling across Slovakia and the EU. Without active connectivity, many of these skills would remain unused. Therefore, it is essential that seniors have not only devices and training, but also stable internet access that allows them to stay active. With the emergence of new technologies, this gap becomes even more pronounced, and accessible data can be the first step in helping seniors not only discover technology, but fully use it.
